Super Bowl, New Knees and S*x Kittens

Football season is done, at least for seven months, when we'll start it up all over again. Our team didn't make it to the playoffs, let alone the semi-finals or the Super Bowl, but we rooted for Kansas City to win it all, and they did! Andy Reid looks like who you would conjure up in your mind, if you were thinking 'football coach', and we loved watching his team win big.

Super Bowl at our house, post major surgery, was jalepeno poppers and wings. We were a party of two celebrating with two boxes of frozen appetizers; there were plans to cook a pizza but we never got that far.

And can I dare say, what the heck is wrong with our world? After yesterday's raunchy halftime show, this morning's paper said it got great reviews. Confirmation that most of us are crazy. The only thing that made Jennifer Lopez's half-naked-leotard-pole-climbing routine worse was that her 11 year old daughter shared the stage with her. Well, there you go. I told Cub Sweetheart women right now can't seem to decide if they want to be a football coach, report from the locker room on the sidelines or be a s*x kitten in the middle of the field. (And yes, I know this isn't politically correct; don't even ask me what I think about politics these days.)

Cub Sweetheart's new knee is a week old today, and he's already walked around the block a couple of times, and taken a ride to Sonic to get a root beer float. The physical therapist comes today for his first workout and he warned us to take pain meds before and plan to ice afterwards. Actually he recommended that CS take drugs, not me.

We may need another trip to Sonic for root beer floats after that.

I finally found the right needles to knit knockers, after trying two other versions. One was too short and the others were long, but not sharp enough. These are 8" long, slick metal with sharp points on them, and I feel like, using these, I've finally mastered the pattern. It's so heartwarming to see the comments, on Facebook, of the recipients when they receive a set. Knitting them is such a small thing to do for women who have been through so much by the time they receive a set.

When we recently checked in with Deb, Lily's new owner, they were driving across Nevada, and Lily had already spent part of the fall visiting friends in Arizona. Deb told us all is well, they are doing great together. I envision her riding shotgun with Deb, going up and down the highway, her little ears flapping from the wind coming through the window, and it feels right.

Texas hasn't had any winter to speak of yet; yesterday was 75 degrees for pete's sake! But it sounds like it's about to change, with rain, snow, sleet, wintry mix coming this week. February in Texas is always a bit sassy. Hopefully it either doesn't happen at all or the kids get enough snow to have fun. The Dallas metroplex has an abundance of highways that weave over and under each other, and no real means of dealing with ice or sleet. We're retired, so if winter actually appears, even for a day or two, we'll be pulling out the crockpot to make a batch of chili, and turning on Netflix until it's all over.

Our Texas home is just about to go on the market, and yesterday the sweetest older man drove into our neighborhood. He happened to run into our next door neighbor, who told him we were going to be selling. Within 15 minutes we had him walking through the house, beds unmade, stuff sitting all about because we are a week out of major surgery, but he didn't seem to mind. We actually directed him to another home in our neighborhood that is on the market, that is likely a better fit for him, but it was awfully sweet to listen to him tell us all about the winding road that has been his life. He had the sweetest, sweetest blue eyes.

The church we attend here in Dallas is going through the book of Revelation, verse by verse, which may mean the Rapture happens before the pastor finishes. It's a really interesting story if you're into bowls and angels and plagues and such, and we didn't want to miss, so I figured out how to download apps on my phone, apps on our TV, hook up the Roku, connect to the live service and voila - there the pastor was on our TV screen! I have to admit I felt clever to have figured it all out, but wondered why on earth it can't be easier than that? Then it occurred to me that our son had sent us a video of our eight year old grandson shooting baskets in his bedroom. Sure enough, within a few minutes we were watching him shoot his version of 'alley-oops' which, I have to say, was much cheerier than hearing about Revelation and final battles.

Does anyone else ever wonder why the disciple John couldn't have just written, 'He wins'?

I've also figured out how to borrow E-books from our library, and download them to my Kindle Paper White. I love that, instead of paying Audible every month, or spending money at Amazon, the books are free and disappear in two or three weeks. Technology at its best! Right now I'm reading, with my Nibs bookclub, Brothers Karamazov. It was a tough one to get into but I've finally hit the sweet spot where it's got me glued.

You are a clever one! You'll be so missed in the hood! I saw the coloring book "Joy for the journey" at Flying J while stopping for has...right by the bathrooms. Of course, you've been on my mind ever since. Vicki

I’m so happy to hear that Miss Lily is having a wonderful time in her new life with her new owner. I’m also so happy to hear that Don is doing so well after his knee replacement! Sounds like everything is going smoothly. Our Super Bowl plans were just us two too...and actually I sat in the living room watching stuff I’d recorded and Jeff watched the game in his man-cave. We had grilled cheese and tomato soup and called it a successful evening. We’d had Zoey for the weekend, so we were ready for some peace and quiet. We love having them and spoiling them...but constant activity is not our usual M.O. The older they get though, the more fun it is...no tantrums or melt downs - just lots of laughs, movies, popcorn, baking and being silly. Talk to you soon!! Bettie

Yes, Bettie, after Don heals just a bit more I should be ready for a catch up. And I'd love it if all our grandkids started out 5 years old!
